Rainbow Soup for the Queer Soul

"Rainbow Soup for the Queer Soul: A Heartfelt Poetry Collection" is the first volume in a growing series celebrating the voices of the 2SLGBTQI+ community and allies.

This debut book features 25 heartfelt poems that explore queer identity, love, loss, healing, and joy; each one submitted by someone with a story to tell. It's a tribute to the beauty and complexity of queer life, and a reminder that every voice matters.

While this volume is all poetry, future books in the Rainbow Soup series will include a rich mix of short stories, reflections, advice, and more.

The Rainbow Soup series is built on collaboration and community. If you have a story burning to be told, a poem that needs to breathe, a stream of consciousness that captures your truth, or any piece of your queer experience you want to share, we'd love to hear from you.

Whether it's raw and unpolished or perfectly crafted, whether it's three lines or three pages, your voice has a place in our soup. Together, we're building something beautiful: a collection of authentic queer experiences that helps queerify the world, one story at a time.

Ready to add your colour to the mix? Let's create something meaningful together.

We welcome all forms of expression:

poetry,

short stories,

essays,

reflections,

letters,

or anything in between.

Whether your piece is raw and unpolished or carefully crafted,

what matters most is that it’s authentically you.

Every queer voice adds a new flavour to our collective rainbow soup.

Here are some prompts

(which will ideally become section titles)

  • A Letter To My Younger Self

    • Share what you would say to your younger self, knowing what you know now. Offer the wisdom, comfort, and love that your past self needed (and that others might need to hear today).

  • Found Family & Chosen Bonds

    • Explore the depths of friendship, community, and the families we create when the world doesn’t always understand us. Celebrate the people who show up, hold space, and remind us that love makes a family.

  • Love in All Its Colours

    • Reflect on romance, self-love, platonic love, queer crushes, heartbreak, and the healing power of being loved and truly seen. From first kisses to lifelong connections — every shade of love belongs here.

  • Coming Out & Coming Home

    • Share the moments of discovery, laughter, creativity, and pride that make our queer lives radiant. Include reflections, affirmations, poetry, or rituals that celebrate queer spirituality, self-acceptance, and the joy of finally coming home to yourself.

  • The Tough Stuff: Shadows & Survival

    • Be raw, real, and resilient. Write about grief, discrimination, mental health, rejection, or struggle, and the fierce courage it takes to keep going. Because survival is a story, and a half.

  • Reclaiming Our Stories

    • Reflect on what it means to rewrite old narratives, heal from shame, and find power in truth. This is a space for reflection, forgiveness, and the beauty of becoming who we were always meant to be.

  • Making Change, Making History

    • Celebrate queer activism, allyship, pride marches, classroom courage, and all the ways we’re shaping a better, louder, prouder world: one act of bravery, one story exchange, one out loud action at a time.
