Canada is not immune to misinformation, imported culture wars, or emotionally manipulative media. In fact, one of our greatest challenges right now is external influence, especially from highly polarized American media ecosystems that do not reflect Canadian laws, values, or educational systems.

When fear replaces facts, trust breaks down. And when trust breaks down, democracies weaken.

Democracies don’t collapse overnight; they erode slowly when people no longer understand how systems work or believe those systems are acting in good faith.

That’s why education is not optional; it is civic protection.

Why Division Is Not a Canadian Value

Canada was not built on dog-eat-dog conquest-only narratives or winner-take-all thinking. Our national identity — imperfect and evolving — is rooted in:

• Reconciliation

• Community responsibility

Division may be profitable for algorithms, but it is damaging to societies.

When people are intentionally misinformed about schools, teachers, or communities, trust erodes and that erosion harms children first.

Trust does not come from blind belief. Trust comes from understanding.

The only way to trust:
